Ruud in provisional squad for Netherlands – Switzerland match

Ruud Van Nistelrooy is preparing for his return to play for Oranje again! Oranje coach Marco van Basten has named the former Dutch striker in the 33-man provisional squad for the friendly against Switzerland to be held on August 22. On the 23rd of January 2007, Van Nistelrooy had officially announced his retirement from international football following certain disagreements with Van Basten during the 2006 FIFA World Cup and has been playing for Real Madrid since then. The 31-year-old player had since harmonized with the coach and on May 25, 2007, Van Basten announced that Ruud would come back to the Dutch national side and that they would work together again.

Marco van Basten has expressed his gladness at this occasion and was noted saying "I am of course happy that he told us that he was willing to play for the Oranje again,” Impressed with his remarkable achievements in Madrid, Van Bastan hopes that Rudd would do the same for the national team as what he was doing at Real Madrid. The coach recalls his past achievements wherein he socred 28 goals in 54 internationals. With Madrid he achieved 25 goals from 36 championships and 6 Goals from 7 champion leagues. The final squad for the friendly against Switzerland will be announced on August 17.
