Russia’s key defender Sergei Ignashevich was expelled from Russian national team by coach Guus Hiddink on Monday after turning up late for the team's training just two days before Russia host in-form Poland in a friendly. Hiddink said that the fullback simply ignored his advice to leave home earlier and arrived for the training late. He also added that he always try to understand a player's needs and there are exceptions to the rule when you're stuck in traffic or there's an accident. Apart from an occasional swipe from jealous Russian coaches, it has been relatively smooth sailing for Dutchman Hiddink, who has won approval from the country's fans as well as the media since taking charge of underperforming Russia just over a year ago.
