European Football officials, after months of deliberations have decided to cancel Euro-2008 qualifiers between Armenia and Azerbaijan citing security concerns. This decision was taken following the two football associations unable to reach a suitable compromise. The Azerbaijan X Armenia qualifiers scheduled for 8th September and 12th September were cancelled and both associations will be awarded zero points for the matches. The subject of these football matches has been over-politicized in the Armenian and Azeri press since the results of the draw bringing the two teams in one qualifying group were announced early last year. Azerbaijan are at bottom of the group with five points from eight mathes while Armenia has seven points from seven outings.
