Spain beats Liechtenstein in Euro 2008 qualifiers

Striker David Villa scored two neatly-taken goals to earn Spain a 2- 0 Euro 2008 qualifying win in Liechtenstein that lifted them into second place in Group F on Wednesday. Villa put Spain ahead in the eighth minute when he slotted home from a tight angle after rounding the keeper and took his tally to 12 goals in 23 games with an overhead kick soon after. Villa's early goals were rare bright spots in an otherwise intermittent performance from Spain and the striker spurned the chance to complete a hat-trick when he fired an injury-time penalty against a post. Sweden leads Group F with 18 points after being awarded a win in the abandoned match with Denmark. Spain holds second position in the Group with 15 points. The next match for Sweden is with Denmark and Spain with Iceland.
